Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan

Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan, the only Charitable Hospital centre run under the auspices of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar, Kolkata – 700076 has been rendering dedicated services women and children irrespective of religion, caste or creed through it’s Charitable Hospital, School of Nursing, Community Health Services and Vocational Training Unit, inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s Ideal “Service to Man is Service to God”.
It was started in 1950 by Ramakrishna Mission, Belur in the residence of Late Ramaprasad Roy with only 10 beds. In November 1961, the management of Matri Bhavan was handed over to the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission the women’s counterpart of the Ramakrishna Order. Since then it is being entirely managed by the Governing Body of the above mission and the hospital is known as Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan.

From a humble origin, Matri Bhavan gradually grown up to its present stature of a 100 bedded charitable hospital with 80 beds for Obstetrics, Gynae, General Medical, General Surgery and Peadiatrics and 20 for Neonates providing health care to economically deprived section and middle-class mothers and children and promoting the concepts of safe motherhood among the under privileged families.
It also promotes holistic care of the family through a range of community activities targeting to achieve self-reliance and self-confidence among mothers and children.
The Institution celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1975 and the Golden Jubilee in 2000.
Matri Bhavan has crossed many a hurdle since its inception but without deviating from the core principle of Swami Vivekananda’s Ideal, “Work is Worship”, serving mankind as manifestation of the Divine, irrespective of caste, creed and nationality.
